On August 23,2009, The Mets who were playing the final game at home against the rival Philadelphia Phillies. It was the bottom of the 9th as Castillo and Murphy who were on 2nd and 3rd after Phillies second baseman Eric Bruntlett who made 2 errors on ground-balls hit my Luis and Dan made a unassisted triple play. He made a catch over the second base bag so he got Jeff Francoeur out and Castillo out as he landed on the bag since Castillo was off the bag. Then he tagged out Murphy who was trying to avoid a tag as he was coming close to second base.
Once the tag on Murphy was made the ball game was over. It was the 15th unassisted triple play in history. It was the second to end the game and the first in the National League to end a game. The Mets lost to a score of 7-9. Pedro Martinez started for the Phillies.
So Francoeur Tripled Out!
