Daniel Thomas Murphy (born April 1, 1985) is a Major League Baseball infielder/outfielder for the New York Mets.

2006-2007Edit

He was drafted in the 13th round of the 2006 draft. He played in the minors since then.

2008Edit

On August 2 he made his debut. Murphy had his first career homerun on August 9. He began his days playing in Left field.

2009Edit

On July 8 against the Los Angeles Dodgers in July Murphy made a play to first base by throwing the ball behind his back to Bobby Parnell who was on first base and made the catch to complete the play. It received the number one web gem of the day. In Spring Training Murphy had aknee injury and has not yet returned to the team. Video of the Play

After Carlos Delgado was hurt he moved from left field to first base taking over. He had 12 homeruns leading the team. This was the lowest in franchise history.

2010Edit

On June 2 while playing second base for the Buffalo Bisons, the Mets' Triple-A affiliate, he suffered a 'high-grade' MCL tear while trying to turn a double play. He will miss 4-6 months, no surgery will be needed.

2011Edit

Murphy was batting when the fans were chanting USA in Mets win on Bin Laden's Death. Daniel was the batter that drove in Scott Hairston from second around third to homeplate after a pitch popped up and nobody made a catch between the phillies second and first baseman. Murphy is now out for the season as he got hurt on a play at second base when Jose Constanza slide in the base called safe but Murphy was taken out of the game as the spikes from the shoe hit him and Scott Hairston took over for him in the game. On August 8 he was replaced on the roster by Ruben Tejada and placed on the 15 day DL along with Jose Reyes as Mike Baxter took his spot.

2012Edit
